2015 Lamborn Zinfandel

2015 Lamborn Zinfandel
"The Fire Storm"

Everyone knew yields would be down in 2015. Drought years do that. But the lack of water wasn't the only factor that put a crimp in Napa Valley's harvest this year. Cold weather during flowering led to poor fruit set, leading to small, uneven grape clusters. Yields in some locations were 50 to 90 percent less than average, but the fruit that did ripen was outstanding. Ripening was helped by a warm summer with almost no rain. Picking began in early August in some areas and most of the Valley was finished by late October. We produced a modest 575 cases of this, our 33rd vintage.

Winemaker Heidi Barrett’s tasting notes:

"Built upon a dense and rich garnet core with a bright red rose rim, this is a pure mountaintop Zinfandel. Swirling the glass reveals an alluring bouquet of black cherry, raspberry, vanilla bean, pepper and spice. Subtle tones of clove and toasted oak on the palate open up to more prominent notes of dark fruit, leather, and cola. The velvety mouthfeel lingers to a strong and lengthy finish. A stunning beauty from Lamborn’s mountain vineyard!"

As always, another great representation of the Lamborn Family Zinfandel.

Tasted these wines and got to meet Mike and Terry at an event in Dallas. Their latest Zin was great and a no brained to order. One of the best wines that night out of 25 tables.

God I love Zins from this part of town. THE thickest, headiest, most concentratedly perfect Zinfandel–in other words NOT the Zinfandel you’re used to drinking: what you have been trained to think Zinfandel tastes like in the past 15 years. No. Get some of this. It will BLOW your mind. I have a few others you should try too, if you seriously want to experience Zin the way god intended.

Scorched pitchy rhubarb fruit in the nose, jammed up on graham crackers and Cinnamon Toast Crunch in Fruit Loops milk, green weedy present, but slight behind stupidly smooth, beautiful fruit.

In the mouth, claret-clarity in a slightly chubbier package, a thick nectar coating all while maintaining a mere 14-3. Dark and decisive, banana, pear and briar, all catatonic in a dark wasteland of ridiculous black cherry.

There’s only a handfull of people left who make Zinfandel the way I like–and I’m weird and “haven’t kept up with the trends” I know… I’m odd that way, and stubborn and old-fashioned. I am completely allergic to prune, I loathe hi-alc, VA is a case-by-case thing and I roll my eyes at the “Old Vine” on your label, as it almost GUARANTEES bad Zin. But this stuff! OMG this stuff.

Been a fan of this label for a long time, then fell in love with the 13 recently and because of that have hit up 14 and 15. Buy as much as you can find and afford. THIS is what the old-timers intended when they bottled Zinfandel. Not that Koolaid & Vodka BS you get in Paso, most of Sonoma, and the grocery store. Step up to real Zinfandel and stop drinking that crap!

Lamborn produces the most consistent Zinfandels in the country. This vintage like its' predecessors is top notch. Deep, dark and rich the 2015 pleases the pallet. Highly recommend trying this wine!

LOVED this Zinfandel. I am always a fan of Lamborn's Zin, but this one was the best I believe I've had! Highly recommend!

I’ve long been a fan of Howell Mountain wines and Heidi Barrett. I came across Lamborn wines and wanted to try. I can honestly say the fire storm Zinfandel blew me away. I detected notes of raspberry and vanilla in the bouquet. Upon tasting I noticed dark fruits opening to cola ending with a nice long finish. I will be adding this wine to my cellar.

Lamborn Zinfandels are our favorite and Firestorm is another winner. A mouthful of jammy dark fruits with a great long finish. Perfect to pair up or drink by itself.

This Zinfandel is delicious! It is delicious with food but is also delicious all by itself. I absolutely love all of the Lamborn wines. I like the story on the label which is unique to each vintage. One almost feels like part of the family!

When we were introduced to Lamborn Vineyards, we were lucky enough to meet Mom and Dad. What a treat! They treated us like kings and queens, sharing their story and how their wines came to be. Then we tried them. I've never experienced a zinfandel quite like theirs. It's perfect. Drink it on its own or with food - it's incredible. I might just have to open a sacred bottle tonight!

I have been drinking Lamborn Zin since the beginning with Bob and Mike and watched as 'family vineyards' became a prestige title. I have never had one that disappointed. Is this one the best? Which of your children to you like the best? All I can say is I tasted it with the 2014 which I love and it did not disappoint at all - in fact, I loved it!

We opened this beauty last night after a long day. We sat down on the back patio and thunderclouds rolled through. Each sip went well with lightening flashes, a surreal feel. All we could say is this wine goes well with the weather. Really we have enjoyed every vintage in their own unique way. We are just amazed each year as we enjoy it so many different ways. When our inventory runs low, they produce another exquisite bottling. Thanks Lamborn Family.
